Skill Development ProgramOur skill development session is a beginner program for people just starting out in the game. During these sessions, participants will learn the basics and fundamentals of sledge hockey. Such activities include balance, mobility, stopping and starting, and the rules of the game. Participants will be invited to participate in exhibition games against other skill development teams in the GTA. Fall Session: October 16th - December 18th, 2011All ages Winter Session: January 8th - March 20th, 2012All ages Select ProgramOur select program is geared for players who are advancing in the game, but are not quite at the level to compete on the Toronto Sledge Hockey rep team. Instructors will assist players on improving individual skills, as well as teaching them the fundamentals and techniques in game play scenarios. Players will participate in all Skill Development exhibition games and may be asked to participate in the occasional Toronto Sledge Hockey rep games. The pre-requisite for this program is previous enrolment in the Skill Development Program. Fall Session: October 15th - December 17th, 2011All ages Winter Session: January 7th - March 17th, 2012All ages Rep TeamOur Rep team is geared for players who are familiar with the rules, fundamentals and techniques of the game, but want to improve them. Participants will focus more on team tactics, team play and strategies of the game. During weekly practices, participants will work on developing their individual skills and utilizing them in game play scenarios and other game fundamentals. Participants in this program are part of the Toronto Sledge Hockey Rep team and will compete in games throughout South Central Ontario. This team is part of the Ontario Sledge Hockey Association (OSHA). In order to be selected to participate on this team, players must meet the required expectations in both commitment as well as individual skill level. These evaluations will take place prior to the season start date. All players are welcome to participate in the evaluation process, however, only a selected number of players will be invited to the team. Players who do not meet the required expectations will be placed in the Toronto Sledge Hockey Select program. This team is selected through try-out basis. How do I sign-up? First time registering for a program?Your first step is to set up a family account. Call a Customer Service Representative at 416-338-4386 from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, to get your account set up today! If you've already registered, click on the button below.Where does the program take place?Our home ice is at Phil White Arena, 443 Arlington Avenue. Near Bathurst and St. Clair. Map What level of mobility is required?To be comfortable in the sledges, you need to be able to bend 90 degrees from the waist and have at least some upper-body stability. Our volunteers help as 'pushers' to help with manoevering the sledges for those with limited upper-body strength or mobility. We will make every attempt to accommodate as many people as possible, so we encourage you to contact us to discuss how we might be able to help you 'Have Fun, Be Active, Play Sledge!'. Please contact us with any questions. Do we need to bring any equipment?No! All the equipment will be provided. If you do have your own equipment, please note that a helmet and full facemask is required for the program. Do our staff need to attend?Yes. Our staff are trained in general disability awareness and issues specific to the sledge hockey program.
